Biography

Dr. Hee-Young Kim, MD, MS, PhD, is an otolaryngology specialist based in Seoul, South Korea, and a leading authority on Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD) and middle ear physiology. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Otolaryngology–ENT Research. Dr. Kim’s research focuses on establishing middle ear pressure (MEP) as a clinical biomarker for ETD and advancing patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in the diagnosis and management of Eustachian tube–related disorders. Dr. Kim holds academic affiliations across the Harvard medical education ecosystem. He is a Faculty Affiliate of the Harvard Medical School – Office for External Education, an Academic Learning Mentor in the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (PPCR) Program at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and a Faculty Affiliate of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health – THCE Program. He has contributed extensively to research mentorship, clinical education, and methodological development, including meta-analysis instruction through the MetaHub Experts Program. He is the author of multiple peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, including works on ground-level alternobaric vertigo, swallowing disorders related to ETD, and ETD-associated hearing loss. His recent editorial work emphasizes the importance of integrating middle ear physiology into emerging artificial intelligence–based diagnostic tools for vertigo and dizziness. Outside his academic commitments, Dr. Kim enjoys playing the violin and contributing to scientific communication and medical education. His work reflects a longstanding dedication to improving diagnostic accuracy, advancing ENT science, and supporting clinicians, researchers, and patients worldwide.
