The Kenyan economy greatly depends on agriculture. Farming in Kenya is mostly done by small scale farmers. Small scale farmers mostly practice subsistence farming and have problems upgrading to commercial farming. Small scale commercial farmers experience constraints such as; access to farm inputs, access to credit, lucrative market, extension services and technology transfers. The best way of uplifting small-scale farmers to sustainable commercial level is through commercial contract farming. Solving challenges like untrustworthy, management problems, monopoly and monopsony within the contractual farming value chain could uplift small scale commercial farmers.
