Abstract

Cancerimmunotherapyhassignificantlyincreasedpatients'chancesofsurvivalandquality of life as compared to earlier standards of care (such as chemotherapy,radiation,andsurgery).Fromthemetastaticstagetotheadjuvantandneoadjuvantsettings in many cancer types, immunotherapy has now firmly established itself asanovelpillarofcancercare.Inthisreviewarticle,weemphasisehowthedevelopment of cancer immunotherapy led to findings that are today consideredbest practises. We also show out the existing drawbacks and restrictions of cancercheckpointimmunotherapyandthewaysinwhichcutting-edgeresearchisattemptingtoaddresstheseissues.
